A neighbourhood Italian identity with more confidence, clarity and bite.
Crazy Nonna is a casual Italian restaurant and bar in Sydney’s Inner South-West, built around generous food, family energy and a distinctly playful point of view.
Coinciding with an in-venue refresh and ambitions to grow, the brand needed a more contemporary presence without losing the mascot, humour and familiarity that had made it a local favourite.

Familiarity gives the brand its warmth. Mischief gives it bite.
A completely new wordmark, colour palette and typographic system bring structure and confidence. The existing mascot is retained as a supporting character, while the new Nonna Approved stamp creates a recognisable shorthand for quality.
RYPE developed the verbal identity from the venue’s existing tongue-in-cheek Nonna phrases, extending her voice across menus, packaging, signage, uniforms and social. Terracotta, charcoal, dough and pesto balance Italian warmth with a sharper, more contemporary edge.

The refreshed identity feels distinctive on the street, cohesive across every touchpoint and ready to grow. It generated renewed excitement throughout the local community and was followed by a 12.5% uplift in sales.
